My Review @Shelfari:

My first reaction to hear that Hilary Duff wrote a book was surprise and delight! I love this girl! She is fun, elegant and she led a great life so of course she is going to be creative as a writer. The book is amazing; every page has an iris in the corner, so cute! I am looking forward to start reading and giving my review!
I♥Hilary Duff!

This book is so good, I might've brought it today, but I guess I am gonna finish it before you say tomorrow!
The Title of the book 'Elixir' comes from Clea's father research to the Elixir of Life (elixir of immortality).
Amazing Book!!! I want more!!! The way it ended is killing me!!

Summery:

The book opens to a scene in a club named Le Féroce in the City of Lights, Paris. Where Clea Raymond tries hard to get away from the crowded club into the balcony, we see Clea trying hard not to think of her missing father, a great doctor, who has been missing for over a year and declared dead. A huge part of Clea refuses to believe that her beloved father is truly dead.

We see her reflecting over this while clutching a necklace from him. It's a silver iris charm, his favorite flower. She remembers what he said the necklace represented: "The petals represent faith, valor and wisdom. You already have all those things in spades, little girl. But when things get tough and you forget, this necklace can remind you."

Clea's miserable thoughts are broken by the arrival of her best friend and travel companion, Rayna. Who is more impulsive and outgoing then Clea. Clea indulges her though she wasn't in the mood to, and Rayna intrudes two Parisian boys, Joseph and Pierre. Pierre and Rayna who just met act like love-crazy paramour, but Clea isn't surprised, her friend is swept away with ecstasy with every new romance and she declares Pierre is her soul-mate. Clea thinks she doesn't believe in soul-mates, but she knows her friend does with every ounce of her heart.

Though Joseph, the other guy, tried to get to know Clea, she politely refuses the to get to know him better and goes dancing alone until Rayna comes and annoyances she is going to Pierre's place and gives Clea the address, just in case.

Clea then heads back to the hotel, but she cannot sleep because all her dreams are plugged by nightmares. So she snapped photos (Photography is her hobby and job) until dawn and then she orders breakfast, takes a shower and falls asleep to the sound of the TV. Only to wake up screaming after another horrible dream of her father's imaginary death, this time his body was eaten by fire. She looked at the screen only to see fire licking into a beautiful building and her heart sinks, she looks at the address Rayna gave her only to discover it's the same building. She hurries with her camera to the scene in question.

On the way, she calls another close friend to her, Ben. Ben calms her down until she reaches the fire spot and find Rayna fine. There she takes so much photos, that later on will revile a dark secret that surrounded her since she was a child.

Back home at Connecticut, Clea and Rayna separate to rest, only she couldn't rest before she checked all the photos she took during her 3 weeks traveling through Europe.

She narrowed the photos to 20 that caught her eyes, 3 of them were in Trafalgar Square, Saint Vitus' Cathedral and Trevi Fountain. But the photos that caught her eyes mostly were the ones in the fire in Paris. One photo in particular interested her because of a handsome boy standing in the shadows of the firemen.

But her reverie broke when the doorbell rang and she discovered a large bouquet of irises from her mother, who is a famous politician, her name is Victoria Weston.

Clea picked an iris and headed to her father's office upstairs, but something was different there, she didn't want her imagination to carry her away but she felt that someone has been in her father's office looking for something. That disturbed her a lot.

Aren't these designs just beautiful!? They could have made beautiful three covers out of them!!!

Quotes:

  • “Who are you?" I asked.
"You know who I am," he replied. "I'm yours."
  • “Pleased to meet you." Sage said, offering his hand. "The pleasure is all mine," Rayna Purred. "Unless of course, it's all Clea's which is even better."
Sage smiled and might have even blushed a bit, which was highly entertaining.”
  • “Clea and I were touring one of the cathedrals in Italy, and in front of the whole tour I go 'That's so cute! Look, they have birdbaths in the church!”
  • “I gave the Rayna back the phone and shook my head. "Ben and I are like brother and sister. That's gross."
"Hey, I read Flowers in the Attic. It was kind of hot.”
  • “This was real. And it was me. I had lived that life, and I had died that death. I was staring at the very end of me.”

Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.

-Antoine de Saint-Exupery

To tell you the truth, I preferred the purple design for the cover.

When love is lost but never forgotten...

Clea Raymond found her soulmate in mysterious and handsome Sage, and discovered they have loved each other through many past lives, all of which ended tragically. Clea wants nothing more than to prevent history from repeating itself and to be with her true love. But there are dark forces in the world: people who want to destroy Sage and the Elixir that makes him immortal.

Sage has been taken, yet Clea is certain he is still alive and will stop at nothing to find him. She turns to her friend Ben, and they enter into an uneasy alliance with Cursed Vengeance, an ancient faction that has information that can lead them to Sage. Clea must get to Sage before Cursed Vengeance does, or risk his death at their hands. But Ben's role is Sage's kidnapping--and in their past lives--leaves Clea questioning whether Ben can be counted on. Just when they get closest to their goal, the events around her make Clea wonder if she's really saving Sage... or if she's leading them to repeat their disastrous pasts all over again.

Devoted is the thrilling continuation of the heart-pounding series that began with the New York Times bestseller Elixir.

From my back cover:
I'm not someone who falls apart. I wasn't raised to be a weak person. Weak people fail, and I couldn't afford to fail right now... Not when so much was at stake.
But I missed him so much.
Sage saw the parts of me I didn't share with anyone... and he loved me anyway. The world felt right when we were together.
He made me complete. He made me happy. He was as much a part of me as my own body.
How could anyone lose that and still exist?
I wasn't sure I could.
I wasn't sure I wanted to.

I totally prefer the older design. The font and colors are more luxurious, even inside there are no irises anymore.
In an interview with MTV, Duff said that "'Devoted' picks up basically where 'Elixir' left off, and Clea has a lot of big questions to answer and decisions to make."

She also said that plans for the third and final book in the trilogy were being discussed and that "I don't think it will be as long. It will be a wrap up, kind of where they are now and what exactly happened to the Elixir, whose hands it's in, what ends up happening with Sage."

I always imagine Clea as Hilary Duff and Rayna as her sister Haylie Duff. Sage as her husband Mike Comrie and Ben is a mystery!!

Photos I love from Elixir release and inspirational photos for a good movie!

It feels like Clea taking the photos in Paris.

Like Clea and Sage...
